Weekly Note

Brethren

I hope everything is going well.

I wasn’t able to attend our last Elders Quorum meeting but I’m sure it was great!! Brother Walpole used the talk “Found through the Power of the Book of Mormon” given by Elder Ruben V Alliaud. I’m sure there was a great discussion and testimonies were strengthened. One of the things I love about the Book of Mormon is even if you don’t believe it’s scripture it’s still full of wonderful things to help us be better people and deal with problems that come up each day. I promise you it can’t hurt you to read it and I also promise you living by the principles taught in the Book of Mormon will help you come closer to Jesus Christ and find peace in your life.

This Sunday we will meet at 10am in the High Council Room. Our discussion will be led by Brother Fairbanks using the talk “Power to Overcome the Adversary” Given by Elder Peter M Johnson.
Each of us have things we struggle with. We know we have a loving Heavenly Father who wants the best for us so we ask ourselves why?? Why does life have to be so hard? Why do bad things happen? Why do we feel discouragement and sadness? Many more why’s…. This talk gives us help in understanding these questions and leads us to study, ponder, and pray about the answers to the why’s in life. Please take some time to read this talk and study this topic so we can learn from each other. Here is a excerpt to get you going.

You are elect sons and daughters of God. You have the power to overcome the adversary. The adversary, however, is aware of who you are. He knows of your divine heritage and seeks to limit your earthly and heavenly potential by using the three Ds:
·        Deception
·        Distraction
·        Discouragement

We have  and EQ activity coming up on Saturday Nov 16. We will meet at the church at 10am and then head out to the desert to shoot some skeet and try to win a Thanksgiving turkey. Everyone is invited and welcome. Please if you can bring your own shot gun shells. The Quorum will provide the clay pigeons and some refreshments. Please come and hang out even if you don’t want to shoot. These activities are meant to increase the brotherhood and give us an opportunity to get to know one another better.

One of the things with this activity I need to stress is SAFETY!! We don’t want any accidents or injuries. That being said I have employed the services of Jess Lyman and James Cox to ramrod the activity. We all recognize that everyone is a grownup and we’re not trying to say anything about anyone’s capabilities but there will be some strict rules that we will ask everyone to follow. I will fully support whatever decision Jess and James make in structuring and leading this activity so everyone will go home safely. I know you will all support myself and these brethren in this.

As we head into the holiday season please reach out to your ministering families and see if there are any needs. This is the perfect time of the year for Christlike service.

Thanks for all you do!

Sam Taylor
EQ President
