Good morning brethren,
This time of year brings different activities to each of us depending on where we are in life. For my family, August means back-to-school shopping and getting into the routines that we rely on to keep us sane for most of the year. My oldest daughter Amelia just started middle school which means I can no longer tell people that I have three little girls. I'm sure that many of you have experienced the feelings of children becoming teenagers and the knowledge that time with them in the home is limited. I relish these years with my girls and hope that they don't pass too quickly, but acknowledge that time only quickens as the years roll on.
As summer turns to fall, I hope each of you can find something that brings you joy and keeps you moving forward. Life can have a way of bringing us down, but there is always a silver lining out there if we look for it. On the topic of looking forward, I want to mention some ideas I had for quorum activities that I hope you can look forward to. I know that we can never find an activity that every member wants to come to or is able to come to at the same time, but I hope we can plan something that everyone can enjoy. Some thoughts I had were a 3v3 basketball tournament (so we don't have to run the whole court), a golf outing/tournament, chess/other game night, movie night, or a hike. I am sure I could just continue to list common activities but I would like to to think on these or let me know of other activities that you are interested in. Again, ideas to not have to appeal to the entire group. My hope with EQ activities is to find activities that can create bonds within our quorum and find similarities with people you were unaware existed. We can discuss this briefly on Sunday during our quorum meeting.
As quick reminder that this Sunday 8/22, is our week to meet and we will hear from Brother Joe Jacobs as he discusses the talk, "They cannot prevail, we cannot fall", by Elder Wong. Since we have a ward in the chapel during the second hour, we will continue to meet in the high council room.
I hope you all have a great day and I hope to see you soon.
Jonathan Phelps
