Attitude

Brethren

I hope everyone had a good Spring Break!! We went on a backpacking trip. I wasn’t sure how that was going to turn out with teenagers and small children but it ended up being really fun.

Attitude
Before class on Sunday, I made mention of how our attitude can affect us and others in performing the Lord’s work. Basically what I felt impressed to share was that the things we do in the church and in the gospel shouldn’t be negative. We need to be cognizant of how we speak about the Lord’s work. Our kids listen to how we speak about it. Our friends and neighbors listen to how we speak about it. Sometimes it can become hypocritical and cause others to see us as phony and therefore the things we are teaching as false. I know it can be hard and it may seem to be burdensome but we profess it to be the reason we are here. A comment was made that we are human and because of that, we can expect to make mistakes and come up short on things. I do agree with that and we have faith the Savior will make up the difference. I also believe in what the Savior taught in the Sermon on the Mount. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/matt/5?lang=eng Because of our choice to become members of his church and our covenant to take upon us his name we need to put off the natural man and learn to control or overcome the feelings our body wants and let the spirit be our guide. If we do this we will want to do his work and it will be a pleasure and not a trial. Think about the times when you have helped someone or given a gift to someone. You always feel good about it. When we give of ourselves, our time, talents and abilities to building the kingdom we should be happy about that and want to share that feeling with others. I myself have a long way to go with this. Those of you who know me well know this to be true. I don’t want anyone thinking they are being chastised or condemned in any way. If something I say can prick your heart and make you want to come closer to the Savior than my ranting is a success.

Trials
Last Sunday Bro Larsen taught us about how trials in our lives can become blessings. All of us are going to experience loss, sadness, anger, pain, and many more things that will test us. It’s just part of the process in learning to become like our Heavenly Father. In times of struggle, we can turn to each other for help and comfort but more importantly, we can turn to the Savior. He has asked us to lay our burdens on him. He went through something unimaginable performing the Atonement. Please don’t minimize his gift to you. He loves all of us and wants to help us. All we have to do is ask and then do what he asks. We had a great discussion and participation from members of the Quorum. Thanks to all of you for that.

Temple Covenants and Family History
This Sunday is a combined meeting with the Relief Society. We will meet in the Gym and have a discussion about Temple Covenants. If any of you could come a little early and help set up chairs that would be great! We will plan on 8:30 in the gym.

General Conference is on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7. Sessions are 10am – 12pm, and 2pm – 4pm. You can watch at the church, on lds.org https://www.lds.org/?lang=eng , or BYUtv. There is also a Priesthood session Saturday evening from 6pm-8pm.

We are working on an EQ activity for April. More information to come.

Thanks for all you do!!
