We Can Do Better and Be Better
This Sunday we will be meeting in the High Council room at 10am. Bro Larsen will be using the talk “ We Can Do Better and Be Better” given by President Nelson during the priesthood session. https://www.lds.org/general- conference/2019/04/36nelson? lang=eng . I want to share a few quotes from the talk to get us thinking. The message is powerful and is absolutely something that can change our lives and bring us closer to our Savior. My whole life I have thought of repentance as something you do when you have sinned and feel guilty about the thing you have done. Something where you need to hang your head in shame and beat yourself up. This talk gives a different perspective and one that makes repentance more like something you want to do than something to avoid.
“ Too many people consider repentance as punishment—something to be avoided except in the most serious circumstances. But this feeling of being penalized is engendered by Satan. He tries to block us from looking to Jesus Christ,3 who stands with open arms,4 hoping and willing to heal, forgive, cleanse, strengthen, purify, and sanctify us.”
“Thus, when Jesus asks you and me to “repent,”6 He is inviting us to change our mind, our knowledge, our spirit—even the way we breathe. He is asking us to change the way we love, think, serve, spend our time, treat our wives, teach our children, and even care for our bodies.”
“Nothing is more liberating, more ennobling, or more crucial to our individual progression than is a regular, daily focus on repentance. Repentance is not an event; it is a process. It is the key to happiness and peace of mind. When coupled with faith, repentance opens our access to the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.”
We have several things coming up…

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Sister Sanders in our ward is 93 years old and needs help with some out of control weeds in her yard. I’m going to meet with her today and come up with a day and time to go help her. I’ll send out another email when I have more information.
Brother Jay Jefferson is a long time wonderful member of our Quorum and after some twisting of his arm he has agreed to let us come help paint the fence around his yard. The temperature needs to consistently be up in the 80’s for the paint to dry properly so we’ll keep an eye on the weather and then set a day and time. I’ll keep you posted on this as well.
Thanks for all you do and you willingness to serve. Please reach out to those you are assigned to minister as well as those you are prompted to and check in on them. A smile and a short chat can do more than you realize.
