Weekly note: Oct 27, 2020

 Brethren

I hope you are all doing well. Looks like we are not quite done with this virus!! Please stay safe and be kind!

I'm sure some of you read the email from the Bishop. If you didn't let me know and I can send it to you. Based on that email we, unfortunately, will not be able to have an activity at this time. We will continue to follow the instruction from our leaders and I'm confident at some point things will get back to normal. In the meantime please continue to look out for each other and minister where you can. Please keep me aware of any needs whether they are financial, physical, or spiritual. We have the means and desire to help anyone in need.

I want to say thank you to all who attended our virtual meeting on Sunday. I thought it worked out okay and honestly, was much better than I thought it would be. I apologize for my lack of skill with the Zoom app but it looks like I'm going to have more opportunities to get better at it.😊 I also would like to thank those who shared their thoughts and feelings on the talk. I think everyone benefitted from your comments and not me giving a boring sermon. For those unable to attend I will give a quick recap...

We used the talk given by Elder Carlos A Godoy titled " I Believe in Angels ".

This talk really hit home with me because the emphasis is for us to be more loving, kind, and accepting of others. In this time of craziness, it seems like basic human decency is thrown out the window. I realize we can't control what others do or say but we can control ourselves. Oftentimes big changes start in small ways. I like the way this talk emphasizes that just as there are angels in heaven looking out for us there are also angels here amongst us acting in our lives each and every day. It is something we should try to recognize and be thankful for. Also with that, we have opportunities to act as angels for others. There are so many ways we can do this. A kind word, a text, a surprise visit, an anonymous gift, words of gratitude, a positive attitude, and so many others. I would ask each of you to look for ways in your lives where you can be an angel for someone and where someone has and is being that for you. Then act on it! I would also ask that you try to be more accepting and kind towards others. Especially those whose opinions, thoughts, and actions may differ from yours. Try an experiment where when you read something or talk with someone the only thing you do is look for the good and positive in what they do or say. This is something I recognized in myself several years ago and maybe why I'm so passionate about it. I was the kind of person that always looked at what was wrong with the person or situation I was in. I generally had a fairly pessimistic outlook on life. Then several years ago my mom called me out on it. She was nice about it but said she didn't want to be around me if that's how I was going to be. It really hit home and I had to decide what type of person I wanted to be. I still have plenty of challenges with this but I am working on it. I believe that's all anyone can do. Finally, remember with Christ help anything is possible. We need to turn to him in all things and use the gifts he has given us to bless the lives of others. If we do this he promises he will bless us. I testify this is true! I have had it happen so many times in my own life. You have too you just have to reflect on your life and you will see God's hand in it!

Our next Elders Quorum Zoom Meeting will be November 22 at 1pm. I will send out a reminder as well as information on the topic for discussion when it gets closer.

Thanks for all you do!
